• For the Dogon people of Mali, Africa, Sirius was an important star in their cosmology. They believed their ancestors were from a planet related to Sirius, and their knowledge of the star system astounded anthropologists when the

they first encountered her. They also worshiped a goddess named Sirius, who was believed to watch over the world.

• According to the Greeks, the star was named after the god Sirius, who was considered the god of hot and sour The ancient Greeks believed that the appearance of Sirius in the sky caused temperatures to rise and was a clear sign of summer. They also credited Sirius with being a guiding star, pointing the way for sailors and shepherds.
